Godfrey Grabs Gold in a Breeze That Brought the Heat

Last night on Lake Erie, the Buffalo Laser fleet got a taste of summer at full throttle. From 6:00 to 9:00 PM, a piping southwest breeze at 10–15 knots rolled in and never let up, delivering classic “spicy” conditions that had sailors hiking hard, grinning wide, and occasionally swimming.

Conditions were quick and challenging—perfect for shaking up the fleet and rewarding smart, aggressive sailing. Connor Godfrey was on fire—staking his claim on first with sharp starts, confident speed, and the kind of downwind swagger that leaves no doubt. Adam Croglia wasn’t far behind, locking down second with clean, consistent sailing and a few clutch moves at the top marks. Paul Redding Jr. kept the pressure on to snag third, muscling his way through the fleet and into the winner’s circle.

Starts were aggressive, mark roundings were tight, and mistakes were punished fast. But that’s Buffalo Laser sailing in a nutshell: fast, furious, and a hell of a lot of fun.

Huge thanks to the race committee volunteers who braved the breeze, set great courses, and kept the night running smoothly—without them, none of this happens, and also thanks to everyone who came out and battled in the breeze. Summer is here, the wind is on, and the racing is only getting hotter.
